Hey everybody, what did you think??

  1. Alex,

I really enjoyed your group practice activity of writing a sonnet using popular song lyrics. I think everyone was really engaged by it. I would suggest that next time you have a few more parameters to the activity, like maybe requiring iambic pentameter and/or having us try to create a specific feeling or atmosphere in the sonnets we were working on.

I thought the example sonnet was a good choice for the points that you emphasized about the ambiguity of Shakespeare’s audience. That was a really interesting argument I’d never considered before, and I think it would be a great way to draw students into a longer discussion about what makes many poems and/or song lyrics universally appealing, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

Overall, I gained a new appreciation for Shakespeare and Beyonce’s team of songwriters!

  2. Hey Alex,
great job on your Sonnet lesson and great topic choice as well! ;) I really enjoyed the group activity, using contemporary song lyrics was a great way to get everyone interested. I may take that idea with me! I also liked that you had a power point to break down the sonnet and you really got everyone talking by pointing out that his work is very ambiguous! In the future I would just suggest maybe having the students do some of the breaking down of the sonnet themselves, You will make a great teacher and your class will be filled with engaging discussions!

  3. Hey Alex,
Great job on your lesson! I liked your presentation and adding comedy to it made me, the student, feel more engaged. I absolutely adored the group activity where you gave us a popular song and had us turn it into a sonnet. It was informative and very funny. I feel you are going to be a great teacher as you appear to have the ability to keep students thoroughly interested. I really enjoyed your lesson and hope to be present for your next one. Good Job!!
